Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies arrested five gang members and are looking for one more in connection with a fight in downtown Carpinteria on 6/6. The fight erupted at Carpinteria and Eugenia avenues around 9 p.m. when the six began yelling at another group. A fistfight ensued, but no weapons were drawn. A witness attempting to call 911 was allegedly punched and kicked by the six, then had his cell phone stolen. He suffered a broken rib, sprained knee, and internal bleeding. Deputies immediately found and arrested three suspects, then two more the next morning.
