The Goods: Bill and Barbara Spencer are no ordinary farm couple. The duo began farming full time after leaving their jobs in real estate and music, respectively, and had their land certified by the California Certified Organic Farmers in 1999. Since then, they’ve provided homegrown apples, stone fruit, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, turnips, cucumbers, melons, and just about every green veggie imaginable. But only a mere 23 of their 50 acres are designated for growing. The rest serves as a wildlife habitat fostered with love by the Spencers. The couple sets up shop every Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for the S.B. Farmers Market on Santa Barbara and Cota streets.
