Carpinteria Man Killed By Amtrak Train

On 7/14 Alan Shapiro, a 60-year-old Carpinteria resident, was killed by a northbound Amtrak train while trying to save his dog from being hit on the tracks near Santa Claus Lane. The incident, which is being considered accidental by investigators, happened around 2:30 p.m., when Shapiro’s dog, who was not on a leash, didn’t get out of the way. The dog was also killed in the accident.
