Lompoc Fire Burns 250 Acres

Evacuation Warnings Issued for Portions of Jalama and East Santa Roads

A forest fire ignited in the early afternoon of 8/20 near the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. The fire grew rapidly, causing brief closures of Highway 101 and evacuation warnings for residents of Jalama Road and East Santa Rosa Road. Before being fully contained Tuesday evening, the fire scorched more than 250 acres. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, but two juveniles were taken into custody for questioning by Lompoc police.
