UCSB Women’s Center Sponsors Three On-Campus Lectures
Third World gender, genetics and injustice against women discussed.
UC Santa Barbara’s Women’s Center will be hosting three speakers over during the second week of February in the Women’s Conference Room at varying times.
On February 11, Helene Lee, a Ph.D. candidate in UCSB’s sociology department will discuss her research about the gendered experiences of Korean-Americans in Soeul, South Korea at 3 p.m. She will focus her speech on “people of color” in the “Third World.” The UC President’s post-doctoral scholar in chemistry, Teri Lynn, will explain how life relies on the replication of molecules and discuss pre-RNA World Models using quantum chemical computations and spectroscopy experiments on February 12 at 3 p.m. On Thursday, February 14, at 5 p.m., co-editor of Shout Out: Women of Color Respond to Violence Barbara Ige will discuss the injustices many women face everyday. She will read the critical examinations, creative nonfiction and poetry of the book, as well as analyze how such oppression and violence can be terminated.
