A 22-year-old West Covina man died early this morning after his vehicle – a 2006 Mini Cooper sedan that witnesses told CHP officers was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour – veered off the road, struck a tree and finally came to rest approximately 200 feet from the southbound lanes of Highway 101. The driver, whose name was withheld by authorities until his next of kin can be notified, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a CHP statement, a toxicology exam is scheduled to be conducted on the man’s body.
