Norm Clevenger was named last week as San Marcos High School’s new principal, replacing the retiring Craig Morgan. Clevenger comes to the Santa Barbara School District after being bitterly ousted earlier this year from his longtime position at the helm of Santa Ynez Valley Union High School. Though details of Clevenger’s dismissal from Santa Ynez remain confidential, the decision was met with strong resistance from staff, students, and parents. The Santa Ynez High faculty voted unanimously in support of him.

Graduating UCSB seniors flipped their tassels from left to right last weekend, marking the end of the Santa Barbara graduation season. In the last six weeks, Westmont College saw 310 graduates, Santa Barbara City College 1,600, and UCSB 4,800. Area high schools graduated 1,706 students-a record for the school district. UCSB estimated that 40,000 visitors arrived in town for its graduation ceremonies alone. (/gradnumbers)
