CHP investigators are looking into a 10/3 accident in which a pedestrian seemingly stepped into the path of a big rig traveling south on Highway 101 near Milpas Street. Though the truck driver attempted to swerve around the man, a Santa Barbara resident, he ended up striking him as well as a car in an adjacent lane. The man sustained several broken bones. CHP spokesperson Officer Dan Barba said it was not yet clear if alcohol or drugs influenced the pedestrian’s actions. (/accident1009)

Drew Sugars, longtime anchor of Santa Maria’s KCOY news, was announced as the new public information officer for the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department. As of 10/6, Sugars took over duties from Sgt. Alex Tipolt, who held the position for roughly a year and will now head the department’s air support unit. (/sugars)
