Westmont College has received $1.5 million from the T.B. Walker Foundation and others to support the development of a new chair in natural and behavioral sciences.

“The T.B. Walker Foundation Chair in the Natural & Behavioral Sciences will honor the work of an outstanding faculty member in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics or psychology,” explained Westmont spokesperson Scott Craig in a press release.

The recipient of the Walker chair will teach one less class each year, so he or she can devote more time to research.

A Westmont professor will be honored with the chair every three to five years. In June, Westmont history professor Rick Pointer was the first to be awarded with the Fletcher Jones Foundation Endowed Chair in Social Science, which was established earlier this year.

After all funding has been obtained, the chair will be awarded to its first recipient.
