Where: 415 E. De la Guerra St., 966-6041.

What: A grocery and deli carrying traditional Italian products that has been a local’s choice for massive sandwiches and specialty items for years.

How much: Super torpedo sub $6.

The dish: Super Italian torpedo subs wrapped in lemon yellow paper are the deli item of choice at this family-run grocery, salami, and made-to-order sandwich shop. Soft bread holds together shredded lettuce, tomato, pepperoncinis, Italian meats, white cheese, mayo, mustard, oil, vinegar, and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. Mustard-mayo-oil-vinegar? Yes, please. The grocery section of the store holds all of the fixings to stock a traditional Italian cabinet, from olive oils, cannellini beans, panettone, limoncello, and a variety of shaped and tubed pastas. Sliced salamis are available by the pound from beneath the deli section’s glass case and a small wine selection houses value-driven table wines. Anybody who has lived or spent time in Italy, buying pastas, produce, and beans at a local’s shop, can see that Santa Barbara’s Italian Grocery has an authentic hole-in-the-wall Euro feel.
