A 15-year-old Santa Barbara High School student was arrested on April 8 on charges of sending threatening text messages to a fellow student.

According to a report from police spokesperson Sgt. Lorenzo Duarte, the incident began when officers responded to a call about the texts by stopping at a residence in the 800 block of East Canon Perdido Street. The 15-year-old there told the officer that a student had threatened, via text, that he would be killed if he attended school the following day, that he would be killed whether he attended school or not, and finally, that others might also be killed.

An investigation into the matter eventually led detectives to obtain a warrant for a Carpinteria residence. Police arrived there just before 5 a.m. on April 8 and took a 15-year-old boy into custody. The case has been forwarded to the District Attorney’s office with the recommendation that a petition be filed against him for making terrorist threats.
