Cachuma Lake Recreation Area Offers Many Attractions for S.B. Outdoor Fun

Now that spring is here, it’s the perfect time to enjoy all the sights and sounds that S.B. has to offer. But this year, don’t limit yourself to the beach: Head north for a day to check out some of the great activities the Cachuma Lake Recreation Area has going on this season:

• Get close to nature’s inhabitants when Saving Wildlife International brings out real live animals for an amazing show on the Nature Center lawn on Saturday, May 16, at 11 a.m. $8; ages 4+. Call 693-0691.

• Take a Wildlife Cruise to learn about local and migratory animals, plants, geology, and the history of the Cachuma area. Cruises run Fridays, 3-5 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m.-noon and 3-5 p.m.; and Sundays, 10 a.m.-noon through October 31. $7-$15. Call 686-5050.

• Explore the county park with naturalists and docents who lead a one-mile, easy-paced hike on Oak Canyon Trail every Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. through October 31. Call 688-4515.
