Wildling Workshop Offers Summer Landscape Painting Courses

Sun Jul 26, 2009 | 06:00am

This week, the rolling hills of S.B. County’s picturesque Santa Ynez Valley will be recorded on canvas with the paintbrushes of many budding artists when the Wildling Art Museum’s first-ever Building a Painting Workshop begins on Tuesday. The week-long, multigenerational series of art classes-which will teach students to use the methods employed by the late Ray Strong, noted landscape painter-is a perfect way for a parent/child team to pass the last lazy days of summer together, or for any Santa Barbarans seeking to translate what they see all around them into art.

A professional instructor will guide students through the various techniques, from learning preparatory drawings and panels to the final completion of a student’s own acrylic landscape. It takes place from Monday, August 3 to Friday, August 7, 10 a.m.-noon, at the Wildling Art Museum (2928 San Marcos Ave., Los Olivos). $115-$130; ages 6+. Must preregister. Call 686-8315 for more info.
