UCSB scientists Erkki Ruoslahti, Tambet Teesalu, Kazuki Sugahara, and Venkata Ramana Kotamraju discovered a new biological mechanism for drug delivery, which was published in this week’s Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The scientists propose using a peptide-a small piece of protein that can carry a “cargo” of nanoparticles-to deliver drugs into a specific tissue, potentially resolving the limitations of current technologies that merely allow for circulation within the blood stream.
