Dear Barney Brantingham, do please stay out of the kitchen and far from the microwave [“Ten Ways Atheists Can Enjoy Christmas,” 12/24/09]!

I’m writing to you not as a third-generation, cheery, and festively mooded atheist, but following my celebration with a roast goose enjoyed by all and sundry. Not only is it a noble bird (unlike a turkey which is like an overgrown chicken), but after a delicious dinner, one has tons of fat which is wonderful to cook with and makes a spread on rye bread to die for. – Claudia Sole
