BORN COPY EDITOR: While some dream of being an author or airplane pilot one day, it seems that Jackson Friedman may have found his calling as a copy editor for The Independent. The Carpinteria High grad majored in English at UCSB but found out about editing as a professional writing minor under Professor Craig Cotich. “I’ve always wanted to do something in writing, but it wasn’t until I took the editing class with Craig that I knew this is what I wanted to pursue,” said Friedman, who plays the guitar, listens to Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, and The Pogues, and hangs with his girlfriend, Courtney Hale, when not fixing our grammar. “It’s a very structured, practical application of all this knowledge that I’ve accumulated over the years,” he said. And we think he’s having fun, too.
