Fire Breaks Out in Montecito Shopping Center

Causes $750,000 Worth of Damage

A fire that ignited at around 2 a.m. this morning caused an estimated $750,000 worth of damage to a shopping complex in Montecito.

According to a brief report issued by the Santa Barbara City Fire Department, crews were dispatched to a structure fire at 1028 Coast Village Road and discovered an active fire in the attic area of the building. They were able to extinguish the blaze within 30 minutes, and no injuries were reported.

The report states two of the business affected by the fire sustained serious, major damage while other adjoining business suffered minor damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

City offices are closed today, July 2, but more information will be reported once it becomes available.
