Last Wednesday I attended a very informative event put on by the San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace at the Faulkner Gallery. This dedicated group of volunteers presented the long history of the PG&E Diablo Canyon nuclear facility and the equally long history of its environmental and regulatory problems. In light of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, I think we cannot afford to become complacent about health and environmental threats in our own backyard. If an accident happened at the plant, PG&E could not contain the waste and no one could possibly afford to compensate the victims for their losses.—Shannon Miller, S.B.
