A 16,330-square-foot home to be built on the Gaviota Coast was approved by the county supervisors this week. Known as the Bean Blossom house, the plan—which had been seeking approval since 2008—was given the a-ok via a 3-1 vote (Doreen Farr recused herself while Janet Wolf voted against) after a compromise was brokered between the property owners and the Gaviota Coast Conservancy, which had been outspoken in its opposition to earlier incarnations of the house’s design. As per the compromise, the house size was reduced by more than 1,000 square feet, the grading required to make it possible was cut nearly in half, and the house, which will be on an inland parcel just west of Refugio State Beach, will be constructed such that it will be all but invisible to the outside world.
