Three cheers to the Santa Barbara government for working hard to ensure BevMo! could open its new location on upper State. If there is one thing this town doesn’t have enough of, it’s liquor stores. By approving a big box liquor chain we are sending our children a valuable message about the power of perseverance as well as the power of a limitless corporate budget. With all of the controversy about marijuana dispensaries in our town, it’s refreshing to see that the government has its head on straight: Who better to decide which vices are appropriate but our elected officials? And anyway, who do these stoners think they are, opening drug stores in our town? They can take their UCSB degrees and entrepreneurial spirit and go stink up San Luis Obispo or someplace—I hear it’s still kind of nice there. I, for one, am proud to live in one of the least progressive cities on the Central Coast.
