I’m a weekly reader and appreciate the contribution to the community that the Independent provides. However I must question your latest political endorsements because it calls into question your understanding of our local, state, and national economic condition. In order to provide funding for basic services, education, parks and a multitude of necessary services we need to have revenue to pay for them.

You supported Lois Capps explaining that she brought money to Santa Barbara. If you did a little research you would have found that Capps ranks in the bottom 10 percent of representatives in securing funds for her district.

You plugged your nose when you brought up her contribution to Prop 27, which allows politicians in California to pick their voters instead of the voters picking their representatives. Prop 27 is disgusting and the Independent should come out loud and clear that redistricting should be done by an independent commission and not politicians.

By her own admission, Capps knows very little about the economy and has a hard time explaining her positions on economic issues. No wonder she refuses to debate. A one-hour debate with four candidates is pathetic. [Capps is currently scheduled to appear in two candidate forums.] If this is a Democratic district then local democrats should pick a competent candidate.—Richard Nordlund, S.B.
