City Plan’s Final Fling
Five years of hearings and brainstorming “Plan Santa Barbara” are coming together on October 26 and 27, and I urge you to continue participating in the process.
Please review the proposed Plan Santa Barbara General Plan Update online, review hard copies at the city’s public libraries, or/and watch the hearings on local TV channels.
On Tuesday, October 26, at 2 p.m. and again on Wednesday, October 27, at 9 a.m., at City Hall, located at 735 Anacapa St., the Santa Barbara City Council will conduct a public hearing to adopt the final Plan Santa Barbara.
Briefly, policies and programs concern: land use, growth management,
economy, environment, housing, historic resources, and transportation.
Attend one of the two meetings or email your City Council.

Some community groups believe this plan brings about too much change: Too big, too crowded, just too much growth. Some concerns are residential density, downtown parking fees, disappearance of open space, and reduction of “character.” However, others believe more affordable housing needs to be provided, businesses must grow in order to remain, and change is necessary.
Santa Barbara is unique and wonderful due to community involvement. Years have been spent to create this complicated and extensive document, and I urge you to participate.
