Republicans Eye Capps’s District

With the boundary lines of Lois Capps’s congressional district about to be dramatically redrawn, Republican candidates are actively sniffing around for a chance to take on a politician deemed hitherto unbeatable. Last week, former lieutenant governor and state senator Abel Maldonado announced he was definitely in. Shortly afterward, Tom Watson, who ran unsuccessfully against Capps last November, sent out an email thanking supporters for their continued support in 2012, urging them to stay tuned for more definitive statements. Actor Chris Mitchum, son of actor Robert Mitchum, is seriously considering running for the seat. For her part, whatever her new district boundaries, Capps says she intends to run again in 2012.
