The Independent has recently given T.C. Boyle his share of ink in the form of book reviews and now a feature interview, deservedly so as he is a living local legend. I personally read The Tortilla Curtain 20 years ago and have followed him ever since. T.C. does not consider himself a muckraker or take sides as he chooses to let the readers make their own opinions. I am intrigued by his latest read regarding the Channel Islands, and its detailing of two environmentalists pitted against each other over their minute degrees of separation in lieu of the big picture.

T.C. rightly asserts that indeed we are the invasive species and asks what gives us the right to mess with the natural order of things. He despairs over the thought of people living in apartments with no connection to nature, tweeting, texting, and spending endless hours on their computers; while he enjoys nothing more than being outdoors, whether it be in his own backyard or our back country.

I can’t help but wonder what Mr. Boyles’s opinion is of Plan Santa Barbara.
