Holiday At The Ranch
Goleta Valley Historical Society's Annual Event Kicks Off This Weekend
Santa Claus and his “rein-goats” are taking time out of their hectic holiday schedules to join the Goleta Valley Historical Society for its annual Holiday At The Ranch event this Saturday and Sunday at the Stow House.
Join around 40 volunteers for traditional crafts, a holiday tour of the Stow House, hayrides, cookie decorating for kids, and live holiday music from the Santa Barbara Holiday Carolers, Carpe Diem! guitarist Tony Ybarra, and The Holiday Horns.
Volunteers have been decorating the venue since early November in anticipation of this weekend’s open house, a Goleta Valley tradition for over 40 years. A number of volunteers have worked on the event for 20 years, including the current Santa Claus, who logically brings his own “rein-goats”.
“We have a lot of people who come and say they’ve been coming to this event since they were kids,” said Dacia Harwood of the Goleta Valley Historical Society. “We have many couples who get married here and then bring their kids to this event.”
Photo opportunities abound as kids meet Santa, decorate cookies in the Stow House’s historic kitchen, and enjoy a Goleta celebrity story time at which Goleta city councilmembers read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
The garland-donned Stow House is open all month, but December 10 and 11 are the official open house dates and promise a good time for all ages. The suggested donation for Holiday At The Ranch is $5 for adults and $2 for children. Visit www.goletahistory.org for more information.
