Santa Barbara police issued 60 tickets to drivers who failed to stop for a pedestrian in city crosswalks. It was the second operation in recent weeks borne out of citizen complaints about speeding and cars not yielding to pedestrians.

The stings took place at four intersections: Anacapa Street and Arrellaga Street (6 citations), Milpas Street and Yanonali Street (39), Salinas Street and Clifton Street (1), and De la Vina Street and Arden Road (11). Two of the motorists on Milpas Street were ticketed for being unlicensed drivers, and their vehicles were impounded.

“The selection of the locations for this enforcement effort was not random,” said a police spokesperson in a prepared statement, “but based on volume of vehicle traffic, volume of pedestrian traffic, and collision statistics.”
