The Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against 18-year-old Santa Maria resident Michael Ledesma who was shot multiple times by a CHP officer Sunday afternoon near Los Alamos. Ledesma’s girlfriend had called 9-1-1 and reported he was threatening her with a knife and, when confronted by authorities, it appears Ledesma turned the knife toward them. Details surrounding the confrontation, however, remain unclear.

Ledesma is charged with the following crimes: willful, deliberate, premeditated attempted murder on a peace officer, with a gang enhancement, and an allegation he personally used a knife; assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer; assault with a deadly weapon upon a female victim; and felony child endangerment of a one-year-old infant.

Ledesma remains hospitalized and is under 24-hour watch by Sheriff’s deputies. He’ll be arraigned once he is released from the hospital.
