The Independent reported in “Library Centennial Celebration” that the Santa Ynez Valley library is “the oldest branch library in the State of California.” While we congratulate the Santa Ynez Valley Friends of the Library on the upcoming celebration of their 100th birthday, our Carpinteria community and Carpinteria Friends of the Library celebrated our 100th anniversary in November, 2010. The historical marker sign on Linden Avenue in front of the location of the site where our first library building sat proudly reads, “California’s First Branch Library – Open November 8, 1910 – City of Carpinteria.”
