Just a few days after he was appointed the City of Santa Barbara’s fire chief, Andrew DiMizio took charge of organizing a massive effort to fight the Jesusita Fire. Three years later, and after nearly four decades of public service, DiMizio will retire from his post December 14. Before becoming chief, DiMizio was a fire engineer, captain, and battalion chief, and he started his career with the U.S. Forest Service after graduating UCSB. In a prepared statement, he said, “[T]he time has come for me to look toward new personal challenges. I have been blessed to have had such a great staff to work with during my tenure.”
