Local Nonprofits Partner for Chance at $350,000
The Santa Barbara County community can help ensure their success by simply voting for CEC and EENG through the Chase Community Giving program on Facebook.
This Facebook-based contest has already directed more than $20 million dollars toward charities nationwide. Votes from the Santa Barbara area community can help CEC and EENG win a combined total of $350,000! The contest begins on September 6, 2012 and ends on September 19.
CEC’s CEO/Executive Director Dave Davis says, “CEC’s efforts for the sustainable future of our region would benefit greatly from winning the Chase competition. The award would allow us to strengthen our programs to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels as well as step up our efforts for the 2013 Earth Day Festival here where it began.”
The fall 2012 round of the Chase Community Giving program is designed to benefit small charities nationwide by being limited to 501 (c) 3 charities with operating budgets under $10 million. The top eligible charity receives $250,000 and the remaining 195 top charities earn $10,000 through $100,000 awards, for a total of $5 million dollars in grants.
EENG Founder and Executive Director Ryland King says, “Winning the Chase competition would mean we could teach our free, college student led environmental education program to every 1st and 2nd grade child in Santa Barbara’s public schools by June 2014.”
With the support of fans, volunteers and local residents, CEC and EENG have the opportunity to earn much-needed resources to further implement their programs in clean energy and environmental education in Santa Barbara County. Anyone with a Facebook account can cast two votes in the contest. CEC and EENG are asking that those votes go to them. Anyone with a Chase account may cast two additional votes.
“CEC is proud to join forces with EENG in this effort. Both groups have strong Facebook followings and we are excited about the opportunity to engage our social media networks for this contest. By voting on Facebook, our followers are supporting the environmental work of both organizations,” said Michelle Kitson, CEC’s Online Marketing Manager.

About Environmental Education for the Next Generation
Environmental Education for the Next Generation (EENG) provides free, youth-led environmental education programs to 1st and 2nd grade classrooms in public schools throughout California. Our college student-instructors teach children vital concepts in environmental science and sustainability during the earliest stages of their educational development, cultivating the next generation of passionate caretakers of the earth. Through activities, experiments, and discussions, we get kids thinking in new ways about the world that surrounds them, inspiring them to bring the message of environmental stewardship home to their families and friends. In this way, we strive to promote sustainability throughout our many communities, from the youngest members of society up.
