An 18-year-old bicyclist, Talia Tashma-Rapp, sustained life-threatening injuries when she ran a red light while heading east on Victoria Street across Santa Barbara Street Sunday evening and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Rapp’s bike was equipped with lights, but she was not wearing a helmet at the time, and police say she may have been listening to music on an iPod. To reduce brain swelling, emergency medical responders placed Tashma-Rapp in an induced coma.
