Riffing on creative comments and insightful information about an intriguing island easily eyed from the 101 freeway.

When you drives past the skinny pier’s island

You can’t help but wonder what’s there.

Gazing down from a car on the highland,

You feel certain the place must be rare.

Encircled with palm trees and the big blue,

Near the corner where cool surfers play,

For a flock of lost mermaids, this locale would do –

A great spot to soak up the moonrays.

It could be the island where Gilligan and

The Skipper found themselves marooned,

But if they couldn’t find that pier to dry land,

Then they wanted to end up cocooned.

Perhaps it’s a place where tycoons sneak to

Shoot golf balls out over the sea.

For rich rebel types only spots like this do –

Greens with fees to fund their secrecy.

But who needs to wonder if the place is rare

When technology freely shares the facts?

Richland/Rincon/ARCO/Mobil Island is there

Because of long-standing oil contracts.

Then again, wherever black gold passes,

There are sure to be eccentric types.

Perhaps the imaginative gents and lasses,

Know more of this island’s true hype.
