New Teen Night At YMCA, Montecito
Called “TEENS FORGING FRIENDSHIPS”, it’s open to all Santa Barbara teens or pre-teens, aged 11-14.
“It’s an exciting, great new initiative, especially for Junior High teens. Right now, they have few places to socialize in Santa Barbara on Saturday nights. Montecito’s YMCA provides a safe place for teens to meet and engage in constructive and positive activities aimed at fostering team building, healthy relationships and athletic activity”, says Cary Young, Senior Director of Aquatics and Youth Sports & Wellness.
TEEN NIGHT is based on a successful program in Downers Grove, Illinois in Chicago’s western suburbs. It was suggested to Cary by Montecito mother Debi Helm. The Chicago program hosts about 350 teens usually twice each month.
“I moved to Santa Barbara in July and I did not see anything like this successful Chicago program here, so that’s why I suggested the idea to Cary”, Debi says.
TEEN NIGHT will offer Music/Dance, Swimming, Basketball, Skating, raffle prizes. Pizza will be served.
Early registration is $8, $10 at the door. For further information, please contact Cary Young, Montecito YMCA, 591 Santa Rosa Lane, Montecito, cary.young@ciymca.org, phone 805 969 3288.
