A 3-week-old kitten miraculously survived a 1,000-mile trip from Oregon to Santa Barbara inside the engine compartment of a Honda Fit and is expected to make a full recovery, ABC News reported this week. The male cat was recovered by Julia Di Sieno, director of Santa Ynez–based Animal Rescue Team, after some serious finagling to extract the dehydrated critter from the small compartment in which it had wedged itself. Di Sieno theorized the kitten may have crawled into the engine when it was warm to escape cold temperatures.
