Life’s Complement
Responding to complaints that a junior high band dared to practice outdoors on its own land.
Silence is golden,
Rare and aloof,
Post birth it emboldens,
Behaves like a goof,
Hides behind wind, rain,
Thunder and lightning,
Makes eardrums strain
To find life less frightening,
At night it visits
You in your sleep,
A dream it deposits
Which you cannot keep,
Cherish the moments
You have with just breath,
Sound is life’s complement
And silence is death’s.
