Approximately 2,000 people — including nearly 300 breast cancer survivors and almost as many men — walked 26.2 miles throughout Santa Barbara last weekend in the 12th annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, raising $4.6 million toward research, screening measures, and public outreach. The two-day event, which started at Chase Palm Park on Saturday and ended with a closing ceremony at Carpinteria State Beach on Sunday, was one of eight Avon walks planned across the country. Some of the money raised was donated to the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara ($100,000) and the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara ($25,000).
