The Bee’s Knees
To promote awareness of the importance of bees and support organic garden pollination, Westmont senior and Beekeeping Club president Daniel Erickson (above) sets up a new top-bar bee hive on Westmont campus with James Wigle, a beekeeper with Super Bee Rescue (superbeerescue.com). “I was coupling a legitimate interest and fascination in how bees work with a problem (i.e., bees dying) compelling enough to do something about,” said Erickson of his reason for starting the club.
Nick Wigle, formerly of the Santa Barbara Beekeepers Association (SBBA), inspects the comb of the newly delivered hive. Since leaving the SBBA, Wigle has launched his own enterprise, Super Bee Rescue, which, according to its website, “specialize in high, difficult, and complicated rescues.”
