UCSB ‘Suspicious Backpack’ a False Alarm

Wed Feb 04, 2015 | 12:30pm

UCSB police evacuated several campus buildings Wednesday morning after officers responded to a report of a “suspicious backpack” at Harold Frank Hall located on the northeast side of the university. Students and faculty in nearby engineering and science buildings, Kohn Hall, and the Materials Research Lab were evacuated.

But a Sheriff’s Office bomb robot brought in to examine the unattended backpack found it to be harmless. The evacuations, which have all been lifted, lasted around two hours.
