The Board of Supervisors deliberated this week whether state DOGGR (Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources) regulators need new laws to better carry out their mission. Assemblymember Das Williams introduced AB 356, which would broaden the state’s groundwater monitoring and data collection requirements, after it was discovered that DOGGR issued permits allowing oil drillers to inject wastewater into aquifers protected by federal clean drinking water laws. The supervisors voted 3-2 to support the bill.
