On Sunday at midday, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a bank robbery at the U.S. Bank branch inside the Ralphs grocery store at the Magnolia Shopping Center. Deputies evacuated the store for approximately 20 minutes while they investigated. The Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit assisted with a search of the area, but the suspect was not found. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, the suspect — described as a Hispanic male in his late thirties or forties, between 5’6″ and 5’8″ tall, with a mustache, and wearing sunglasses — faked a handgun, passed the teller a threatening note demanding cash, and left the store with an unnamed amount of cash. Those with information are asked to call the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division at (805) 681-4150 or the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip Line at (805) 681-4171.
