Tell any surfer the waves are up, and they’ll hit the shore running, transcending any obstacle necessary to get in the water. That’s something iSurf school founder Alelia Parenteau is putting to the test this Saturday, June 4, with the first ever Run to Surf challenge.

“We’re calling Run to Surf a Santa Barbara–style triathlon,” said Parenteau. The run segment is the same as Nite Moves, she explained, but the swim is replaced by a half-mile prone paddle and the cycling portion is swapped for a beach obstacle course designed by Jenny Schatzle. “It’s meant to appeal to people of all different fitness levels and incorporate everything Santa Barbara’s about: our great access to the beach and the beautiful outdoors,” she explained, adding that the proceeds benefit the nonprofit Surf Like a Girl. The race is, of course, followed by a fiesta.
