On this week’s Poodle Radio, Colin Marshall is first joined by Indy senior editor Matt Kettmann and Nabil Alshurafa, president of the Islamic Society of Santa Barbara. Kettmann’s cover story in this week’s issue of the paper examines the history and mission of the Islamic Society, one of California’s oldest Muslim organizations and one dedicated to creating a space for community as well as for reasonable, non-sensationalized information about Islam.
Then, columnist Starshine Roshell visits the KCSB studio to read her new piece on her love and hatred of motorcycles, which was prompted by her father’s injurious history with the machines and its culmination in yet another bone-crunching crash. She also discusses the universal human truths at the core of her best columns about particular stories, the way sudden compelling ideas displace those she’s already working on and the effects of the public identity her writing has given her.
