Santa Barbara Lets Its Pride Shine

Regal rows of palm trees towered over Chase Palm Park as festivalgoers stood tall beneath them, embodying this year’s Pacific Pride Festival theme: “Out. Proud. Unstoppable.” LGBTQIA+ joy, allyship, dazzling outfits, and late-summer skies shone bright.

“Today symbolizes empowerment in our community,” said Pacific Pride Foundation Executive Director Julio C. Roman. He described the event as “a celebration of the partnerships that we have with community members and organizations” that support the foundation’s advocacy work.

Representatives from approximately 60 organizations gathered to share resources, build connections, and spread love. Among them was Free Mom Hugs, offering hugs and support in recognition that some LGBTQIA+ folks may not receive that affirmation from their families. 

Trinity Episcopal Church invited attendees into conversation with a large sign reading, “Tell us your religion story.” At a collaborative station hosted by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, people wove strips of fabric into a growing, interconnected textile.

Beyond the conversations and activities, festivalgoers let their hair down, dancing to rotating artists on stage and socializing in the beer garden. For a day, the park transformed into a vibrant celebration of the unstoppable momentum that authenticity and inclusion can create.
