Give a Little

• You have the power to improve your community and change lives! Help other adults improve their reading and writing skills. The S.B. Public Library System’s Adult Literacy Program seeks volunteers to work as one-on-one tutors at all branch libraries. By tutoring once or twice a week, you can help your neighbors reach their personal goals. The S.B. Public Library (40 E. Anapamu St.), Monday, September 8, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Call 564-5619 for more info.

• If you love nature, hiking, and children, join the next Arroyo Hondo Preserve Docent Training class. Have fun and rewarding experiences with children exploring the preserve’s pristine creek and canyon. Local experts will present the natural and cultural history of the preserve through discussion and exploration. Meet at Arroyo Hondo Preserve (between Refugio State Beach and Gaviota State Park) on Monday, September 8, from 1-4 p.m. Call 684-4405 for more info.

• This year’s San Lorenzo Seminary Dinner, with the theme An Evening in Bavaria, will feature a live and silent auction at San Lorenzo Seminary (1802 Sky Dr., Santa Ynez). All proceeds from the event will benefit San Lorenzo in its continuing efforts to provide a retreat haven for groups and individuals seeking peace and solitude. Saturday, September 6, 4:30p.m. Tickets are $75. Call 688-8096 for more info.
