Law and Disorder 5-14

Floatopia 2 was postponed indefinitely in light of the countywide focus on the Jesusita Fire. With more than 12,000 initially confirmed guests on Facebook for the 5/9 event off Isla Vista’s coast, county officials anticipated the event would demand a heightened level of law enforcement and rescue resources. Lt. Brian Olmsted of the Isla Vista Foot Patrol said the cancellation, helped in part by the temporary alcohol ban for Del Playa Beach, allowed the department to lend its full attention to fire-related operations.
