I find it difficult to comprehend why you would choose to celebrate the sociopathic surfer/artist known as “Arson” in your cover article. Apparently, according to the writer Ethan Stewart, one would have had to experienced the glory of his rude behavior at Rincon to truly appreciate him. His pre-adolescent artwork speaks for itself. How ironic to feature this article alongside an article on preventing bullying in schools. Quick, someone send the writer and his role model copies of Shaun Tomson’s book, “Surfer’s Code - 12 Simple Lessons for Riding Through Life.” There’s even an app for it.

I was @Leds the other day on my kayak. The only others were two little kids, their father patiently watching from the bluff-top. Even though the waves weren't very good, these two boys seemed to be having a good time, the more experienced of the two helping the other with advice, letting him have the inside, etc.
I hope those kids never get caught up in the hoopla that can come with things like surfing and mtn biking.

Funny East Beach, I have had some tough decision's about how involved to become when my kids where younger and working out the rules of the waves, as I watched from a different beach (Campus Point) mostly they were treated with tolerance by more experienced surfers (helps that I grew up here) and they respected that they were not ready for the outside line up, of course there are bullies in every sport and it does sound like Mr Lane might have experienced "Arson" and I wonder if Mr Stewart will respond?
My choice? was to move my kids out of the conflict zone till they could ride well enough to edge back into the line up.... occasionally it just is not worth the BS and we just enjoy the beach, as we did before and will tomorrow.....
