Santa Barbara’s homeless account for only one-tenth of one percent of all reported crime. So explained Santa Barbara Police Chief Cam Sanchez last week during a forum on homelessness at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. However, though the crimes are fractional, the homeless do consume 11 percent of his patrol officers’ time responding to complaints, said Sanchez.
