I would like to thank Nick Welsh for his clear and concise report on the Public Library eucalyptus trees. I would be grateful if you could publish this clarification.
Landscape historian Susan Chamberlin and architect Fred Sweeney contributed substantially to our effort, and without either of them the outcome might well have been unsuccessful. Regarding the nomination of 13 trees, my original nomination identified only the five that Councilmember Dale Francisco voted to approve. These were the only trees that could be verified as dating to the time of construction of the Faulkner Wing. The staff report and nomination from the Planning Division included all 13 trees, apparently without reviewing all pertinent historical information.
