A DRIVE TO DRIVE: Since 2001, John Rose has been one of the select few drivers who are tasked each week with delivering The Santa Barbara Independent across the region, from the Ojai Valley to Lompoc. An avid surfer, stand-up paddler, and hot rod enthusiast, Rose — who drives a 1988 Corvette painted gun-metal gray with a touch of burgundy when he’s not delivering papers in his pick-up truck — takes the job one step further by working on our racks, as well, painting and prepping them before they go public. “I enjoy delivering it because people love the paper,” said Rose, who also recently helped The Independent expand its reach into the Santa Ynez Valley, where he’s happy to report they love it, too.
