Kids who like to spend their days at the beach may want to check out Hendry’s Junior Lifeguard programs running this summer. Available to youth 8-17 years old, participants hone their athletic abilities by running, swimming, paddling, surfing, playing beach games, and doing training drills. Marine ecology, ocean rescue techniques, first aid, and CPR are also covered during the three-week session, which runs Monday-Friday, June 23-July 11 and July 21-August 8, 10 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Those interested in signing up for the course must attend one of the following Monday tryouts: May 5, May 19, or June 2, from 6:15-7:30 p.m. at the UCSB Campus Pool at 552 University Road. Enrollment is limited. For more information and to download an application, visit sbparks.org/jg or contact Al Fimlaid at 729-5028 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
